Miss Nicole is a Connecticut native who grew up in the Colchester area. She started taking dance classes at the age of three and began competing at the age of 7. When she was just eight years old she; along with her duet partner; won first place overall at the Star Bound National Competition in Boston Massachusetts.
At the age of 11, she started dancing at Doreen’s Dance Center and immediately felt right at home. She trained in Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern and Contemporary throughout her years at DDC. Miss Nicole was a member of Miss Doreen’s original Dance Company, representing DDC in many competitions. She was also a valued teacher’s assistant as a young teen. Her positive energy was rewarded when she won DDC’s Dance Spirit Scholarship in 2001. She went on to win the Stage Presence Awards in 2002.
Miss Nicole attended Eastern Connecticut State University graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing Arts and a Minor degree in Dance. While there she was part of the ECSU Dance Repertoire, the Modern and Contemporary Company called the Dance Ensemble and the ECSU Dance Team. During her tenure on the ECSU Dance Team she had the privilege to compete in Daytona Beach Florida in the NDA Dance Championships televised dance competition. The ECSU Dance Team came in Ninth place in their division of over 40 schools; which was a first for the team. Miss Nicole was also a part of ACDFA (American College Dance Festival Association) three years in a row where she took countless classes in Modern, Contemporary, Partnering, and Lifting. During this time, her choreography talent was noticed and performed in a Gala performance at Boston College.
Throughout her many years of teaching at Doreen’s and working with the Doreen’s Company, Miss Nicole has won many awards for her choreography. Most notably she won the Choreographer of the Year award in 2008. She won many awards for her innovative and creative choreography such as the Elite Concept award, from Elite Performance Challenge in 2016 for what many have nicknamed “The Boat Dance."
Miss Nicole has recently taken a step back in her teaching to focus on her family. She and her husband, Travis, just welcomed their third child in June of 2018. Miss Nicole loves being a mother to her three children. She feels being a parent has really helped her to be a better teacher and gives her a unique perspective while working with children. Miss Nicole wants her classes to be a fun, energetic and fulfilling experience for any student who walks into her classroom. She strives to give students a place to express themselves while making friends, learning discipline and finding their love of dance. She feels that teaching dance has been, and continues to be both a privilege and a blessing!
